Converting your life insurance

If your coverage through the ONE-T plan ends, you may be able to convert your life insurance into an individual policy with Canada Life, without having to provide proof of good health.

To qualify, you must:

  • – Be younger than age 65, and
  • Apply within 31 days of your last day of coverage through the ONE-T plan.

If Canada Life approves your application, the maximum amount you can convert to an individual policy is $200,000 (including both your basic and optional life insurance).

You can view the Plan Booklet for more details about life insurance and the conversion option – and what’s available for your spousal life insurance, if applicable.

Looking to convert? Here’s how:

  1. 1. Obtain a quote from Canada Life; call 1.800.665.0551.
  2. 2. If you decide to convert your insurance, contact Cowan at 1.888.330.4010 or
  4. 3. Cowan will fill out the “Group Life Conversion Privilege Notification” form and provide it to you.
  5. 4. Send the form to Canada Life to finalize the conversion process.

You must do this within 31 days of your last day of coverage through the ONE-T plan.
